Root Canal Treatment
A root canal treatment is a dental procedure to remove inflamed or infected pulp on the inside of the tooth which is then carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed.
Reasons You Might Need a Root Canal
1. Persistent Tooth Pain : Persistent tooth pain indicates requirement of root canal treatment. The tooth pain can be on and off, and it could disappear for a brief period before returning. Pain can be felt in the bone of the tooth, face, jaw, and other teeth. The cause of tooth pain can vary. However, those experiencing tooth pain for a prolonged periods should visit a dentist.
2. Tooth Sensitivity Towards Heat and Cold : Tooth sensitivity can be experienced when consuming warm and cold liquids and food. While some can experience a dull ache, others could experience sharp pain. If the sensitivity persists for a long duration, you might be advised root canal procedure.
3. Discoloration of Tooth : An infection in the pulp discolors the tooth over a period of time. As a result of this, the tooth appears grayish black in color. 6. Chipped or Cracked Tooth : A tooth can get chipped or cracked in an accident or while biting hard food. Bacteria could set in the injured tooth that can cause inflammation or infection. Furthermore, the injured tooth can have damaged nerves despite not being chipped or cracked. Since it may cause inflammation or infection, and a root canal may be recommended.

THE PROCESS
Your tooth is treated under local anesthesia. All cavity and infected tissue of the tooth is removed, reaching the nerves of the tooth. Space of the tooth where nerves are present is called as pulp space. All of the pulp and canal is removed and pulp space is cleaned and disinfected using chemico-mechanical means. After we are sure of completely disinfected space, pulp space is filled with root canal filling material and filling. Root canal treatment can be done in single sitting or multiple sitting depending on the tooth condition and infection.
